Andrew Burkhart

Andrew Burkhart is a bright, joy-filled fifth grader living with cerebral palsy as a result of a brain injury. Known for his big smile, warm hugs, and kindness toward everyone he meets, Andrew works hard every day to build his skills and independence.

For years, doctors were unsure of the exact cause of his challenges, often grouping his symptoms under the broad term “developmental delay.” It wasn’t until just before his fourth birthday that Andrew received an accurate diagnosis of cerebral palsy. Since then, his family has pursued alternative medical treatments that have brought him remarkable progress—treatments that, unfortunately, are not covered by insurance.

For the past seven years, Andrew’s parents have shouldered the cost out of pocket, with his father—a dedicated local teacher—working three teaching jobs to help fund his son’s care. While the financial burden is heavy, the improvements in Andrew’s quality of life make every sacrifice worthwhile.
